Actress Cate Blanchett is urging the Academy Awards board to finally honour Martin Scorsese with an OSCAR.

The Australian star plays Katharine Hepburn in Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, and she's calling on movie chiefs to give him the Best Director award he deserves for his legendary contribution to cinema.

She tells British magazine TIME OUT, "Like the whole community, I'd love for Marty to finally receive an Oscar. He's an institution and a living, breathing legend."

Scorsese has been nominated in the Best Director Oscar category four times, his first nod being for 1981's Raging Bull.
