Catherine Zeta-Jones was ''thrilled'' to play a doctor in 'Side Effects'.

The 43-year-old actress stars as psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Siebert in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming thriller flick and was overwhelmed when she realised she would be fulfilling both her and her mother's ''dream'' by embodying a medical specialist - a career she had always longed for.

She explained: ''I am thrilled that Steven cast me as a doctor because I never went to college and I always wanted an MD after my name.

''I am really flattered that I could finally fulfil my mother's dream.''

Catherine has worked with Steven twice before, on 2004's heist comedy 'Ocean's Twelve' and 2000's 'Traffic' - during which she was pregnant with her son Dylan - and the brunette beauty found herself drawn back for third time because of Steven's affectionate nature and the way he looked after her on set.

She continued in an interview with The Sun newspaper: ''I love my job, but it takes a lot to leave my kids and my husband and my dogs.

''This new film had all the elements that got me straight on a plane the moment Steven asked me to do this. To work with him for the third time was an absolute treat.

''He rubbed my feet when I was pregnant on 'Traffic' and that's the only reason I keep coming back. He looked out for a pregnant woman so well, so I knew I was always going to be in good hands.''
