The summer television season ended last week with CBS on top of the ratings among total adults and the key 18-49 age group. However, NBC dominated the top ten, thanks to Sunday Night Football and the season finale of America's Got Talent. CBS's critically lambasted coverage of the Emmy Awards rose in the ratings compared to last year. But the real surprise was the performance of Fox's new Sleepy Hollow series, which tied for ninth place with 10.1 million viewers. With the Syrian crisis continuing to dominate the nightly news programs, ratings for them remained high. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams set the pace with 8.1 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer finished in second place with 7.5 million viewers, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley remained strong with 6.2 million viewers. Overall, CBS held sway for the week with an average 5.7 rating and a 10 share. NBC placed second with a 4.6/8, followed by ABC with a 3.5/6. Fox trailed with a 2.8/5.
