Ashley Tisdale has been cast in 'Left Behind'.

The Disney starlet will play Nicolas Cage's on-screen daughter in Vic Armstrong's big screen adaptation of the bestselling Christian apocalypse novels by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye.

The 27-year-old actress - best known for her portrayal of ditzy blonde Sharpay Evans in the 'High School Musical' franchise - is taking on the role of Chloe Steele, who wanders around America searching for the remaining members of her family after millions of people mysteriously vanish from Earth, Deadline reports.

The series of 16 faith-central novels were previously made into a film trilogy by Vic Sarin in 2001, starring Kirk Cameron, which was a commercial flop.

The new thriller has an alleged budget of $15 million and is thought to be more of a disaster film, unfolding just hours after the Rapture and exploring the survivors' quest. Paul Lalonde and Michael Walker are set to produce.

It was recently announced that 'One Tree Hill' heartthrob Chad Michael Murray was negotiating a role in the feature. He is expected to play journalist Cameron 'Buck' Williams.

Meanwhile, Ashley can next be seen in comedy fright-fest 'Scary Movie 5'.

Shooting for 'Left Behind' begins mid-2013 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
