Channing Tatum has thanked a ''good samaritan'' for finding his missing bag.

The 'Magic Mike XXL' star - who has 23-month-old daughter Everly with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum - had appealed for help on Twitter after leaving his backpack in a cab and was delighted when his request came true.

He posted: ''To everyone who tried to help and to the good New York Samaritan who found my bag and asked for nothing in return, thank you. Thank you all! (sic)''

The 34-year-old star had earlier provided an email address for finders to get in touch.

He wrote: ''Dropped off at 42nd street in New York City and left my bag in the cab!

''Seriously, left my black backpack in a cab near NYC's 42nd street. If you find it, email me at [email protected]. Thanks! (sic)''

Channing isn't the only star to have been reunited with a lost possession in New York recently.

Tom Hanks dropped his credit card in the street and a stranger ensured it was returned safely to him.

The 'Saving Mr. Banks' actor tweeted last month: ''A guy named Tony found my credit card on the street in NYC and returned it! Tony! You make this city even greater! Thanx. HANX (sic)''
