The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess turned down several lucrative reality Tv deals over fears he wouldn't be able to indulge his drink and drug habit on screen.

The singer received a number of offers from producers of the U.K.'s Celebrity Big Brother, in which stars live together in a house under round-the-clock surveillance, but he insists he couldn't have taken part in that kind of show until he kicked his addictions.

Burgess tells British magazine Ok!, "I've been asked to do Celebrity Big Brother a few times. They offered me a lot of money, but I just couldn't do it... I wouldn't have been able to do it at that time because I wouldn't have been able to drink and take drugs in the amount that I was doing (in real life), and that was probably a factor."

He adds of the show, "I'm not being a snob (but)... it just didn't feel right. It's just not for me."

Burgess quit drink and drugs eight years ago after taking part in a successful detox program.
