Charlize Theron and Julia Roberts are to go head-to-head playing the Evil Queen in separate 'Snow White' films.

Charlize is being lined up to take on the role of the wicked stepmother in Universal's 'Snow White and the Huntsman', while Julia is wanted for the role in Relativity Media's rival project 'The Brothers Grimm: Snow White', Deadline.com reports.

The Charlize film will be directed by Rupert Sanders, while the Julia movie will be helmed by Tarsem.

Both projects promise to be very different although the directors are keen to get their project released as soon as possible.

'Monster' star Charlize was first linked to 'Snow White and the Huntsman' in October after producers failed to land Angelina Jolie for the revisionist take on the fairytale which sees the queen hire a tracker to find her stepdaughter, who has run away. Michael Fassbender is the frontrunner to play the Eric the huntsman who eventually become friends with Snow White and helps her to escape from the all-knowing queen.

The huntsman will act as a mentor figure, teaching the teen girl how to fight and survive but won't be a love interest for Snow White.

'Brothers Grimm: Snow White' sees a dark spin on the project.
