British singer/stage star Chesney Hawkes has blasted hoaxers who falsely claimed he would switch on a town's Christmas lights - insisting they should donate money to charity for the stunt.
The One and Only hitmaker was billed in posters as the star attraction at the festive switch-on in Cupar, Scotland.
But the advertisements were drawn up by mystery pranksters not connected to officials in the town - and Hawkes has slammed the jokers for wasting money.
He says, "This is the first I've heard about this - clearly someone's been up to mischief. They should have given the cash spent on the posters to charity."
