A St Louis, Missouri svengali, who insists he discovered and mentored Chingy, is seeking cash from the rapper over a broken deal. RONALD GAVIN is seeking $250,000 (GBP139,000) in damages from the rap star, real name HOWARD BAILEY JR, claiming he breached a 1999 contract by signing with LUDACRIS' Disturbing Tha Peace label four years ago (02). The suit, which was filed in St Louis County Court last week (ends02JUN06), also names production duo TRAK STARZ , who many believe launched Chingy's career by producing his 2003 debut LP JACKPOT. In the court documents, obtained by MTV News, Gavin alleges that Chingy violated the terms of an exclusive contract he signed with his label, 49 Productions Inc, when he was a little-known hopeful rapping under the name H THUGZY. Gavin claims he spent more than $100,000 (GBP55,500) over the course of three years on the artist, helping him to achieve his rap dreams. As well as promoting his earliest gigs, Gavin claims he produced an album for the RIGHT THURR rapper, and was working on a follow-up before his promising client signed to Ludacris' imprint.
