Prosecutors have demanded police obtain more evidence before they decide whether to press charges against Chris Brown over his alleged attack on girlfriend Rihanna.
Police presented Brown's case on Tuesday (10Feb09) - two days after he was arrested for felony battery after an incident with an as yet unidentified woman in a vehicle in Los Angeles.
It is alleged by various news outlets that the victim is 20-year-old Rihanna.
But the Los Angeles District Attorney is refusing to proceed with the case until more evidence is presented.
L.A. County spokeswoman Jane Robison confirms, "Prosecutors asked for further investigation."
The scandal is already taking its toll on Brown's career - he has been dropped from a handful of promotional deals and several radio stations across the U.S. are refusing to play the Kiss Kiss hitmaker's music until the case is resolved.
Brown remains free on $50,000 (£35,000) bail.
