Good Morning America bosses have defended the controversial interview with Chris Brown which led to him allegedly hurling a chair at his dressing room window - they are adamant the questions put to the singer were "relevant and newsworthy".
The Kiss Kiss hitmaker made an appearance on the TV show on Tuesday morning (22Mar11) to promote his new music, but he was left agitated during a chat with host Robin Roberts when she asked him about his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
Brown became increasingly annoyed by the questions about his legal troubles, telling Roberts, "This album is what I want them to talk about, not what happened two years ago."
After the chat, the singer allegedly flew into a rage and smashed a window in his dressing room, prompting worried staff members to call security.
Bosses at ABC, the network behind Good Morning America, have now defended the interview and they're adamant Roberts did not step out of line by asking Brown about his past problems.
A statement from the network reads, "As always, we ask questions that are relevant and newsworthy. And that's what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown."
Roberts has also given her reaction to the incident, writing on, "Sure has been an interesting AM @Gma. Still sorting thru (sic) everything myself... Been a long day, Have taken everything said, good and bad, to heart. Appreciate the support. Tmrw (tomorrow) is a new day. This too shall pass."
Brown was convicted of assaulting Rihanna and sentenced to community service and probation, while he was also ordered to enrol on an anti-domestic violence course.
