HBO's lavishly produced series Boardwalk Empire , set in Atlantic City during Prohibition, won the Golden Globe Sunday night as television's best dramatic series, while its star, Steve Buscemi, won the best actor award in a TV drama. Some critics observed that the competition was unfair. No broadcast network can spend as much money on a TV series as HBO, as a pay-TV channel, can. Katey Sagal won the best actress award in the drama category for her performance in FX's Sons of Anarchy. For the second year in a row Fox's Glee won the Golden Globe for best comedy or musical series, but the stars of that series were passed over in favor of Laura Linney of Showtime's The Big C who won for best actress in a comedy or musical series, and Jim Parsons of CBS's The Big Bang Theory , who won for best actor. However, Glee 's Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer won Golden Globes in the supporting actor categories.

Other winners included Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television Carlos (Sundance Channel); Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie Claire Dance for Temple Grandin ; Best Performance by an Actor in a mini-series or TV Movie Al Pacino for You Don't Know Jack .
