Chris Martin "wouldn't have a girlfriend" if it wasn't for Coldplay.

The 'Paradise' singer - who is about to release the band's fifth studio album 'Mylo Xyloto' - is grateful for all the success and adulation being the frontman of the group has given him, especially the opportunity to meet his wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

Chris - who married the Oscar-winning actress in December 2003 - said: "I wouldn't even have a girlfriend if I wasn't in this band. I'm so grateful for my job; it's given me everything I have."

The 34-year-old British musician is famous for not speaking about his life with Gwyneth and their two children, daughter Apple, seven, and five-year-old son Moses, and he insists he prefers to give the spotlight to his Hollywood star wife.

In an interview with the USA Today newspaper, he said: "Maybe it's an English thing, but I prefer trying to keep quiet and out of the way. I'm happy for my wife to be the famous one. She's doing awesomely, and I'm very proud."

Chris compares his relationship with his three Coldplay bandmates -Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion - to a marriage, a very close one.

He explained: "It's an important part of our history that we spent our first year knowing each other just as friends, not playing music together. We have this kind of four-way marriage, and it's gotten closer over the years - even though our lives are much different now than they were 10 years ago."
