Chris Pine is to star in 'This Means War'.

The 'Star Trek' actor is reportedly in negotiations to appear alongside Reese Witherspoon in the romantic comedy, which is being directed by McG.

The film follows two childhood best friends who fall out after falling in love with the same woman and embark on a feud which escalates so much it demolishes half of New York.

It has not yet been disclosed who is lined up to play the other male lead, despite shooting being scheduled to begin in July.

Seth Rogen is reportedly at the top of a shortlist drawn up by studio Fox, but it is unknown whether he wants to be involved in the project.

Bradley Cooper was originally meant to star in the film, but dropped out in February.

The movie has been in development since 1998, with the most recent draft of The Script being penned by 'Role Models' writer Timothy Dowling.
