The Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway has reportedly held a low-key engagement party for her and her new fiance Adam Shulman. According to the Press Association today (February 7, 2012), the Devil Wears Prada star held a gathering in New York for 125 people, at the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, Manhattan. Proceeds from the cafe, which is staffed by volunteers, fund the Housing Works organisation, which is "committed to ending the twin crises of Aids and homelessness." The party is said to have been packed with Hathaway and Shulmann's family and friends but their A-list contacts are said to have been notably absent.
Anne and Adam have been dating since 2008 and the couple announced their engagement in November 2011. Speaking about their relationship, Hathaway says that he disrupted her plans for some time as a single lady: "Adam totally ruined my plan. I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time, and then I fell in love like a fool!" Hathaway was previously in a relationship with Rafaello Follieri but ended the relationship after investigations into his facial affairs threatened to damage her reputation and career.
Hathaway is scheduled to appear in this year's release of The Dark Knight Rises, in which she plays the role of Catwoman, opposite Christian Bale's Batman. She will also play the role of Fantine in the forthcoming screen adaptation of Les Miserables.
