Christian Bale has confirmed he is "done" playing Batman.

The actor recently wrapped filming on 'The Dark Knight Rises' - the third movie he has played the Caped Crusader and his Alter Ego Bruce Wayne - and admitted it is the last time he and director Christopher Nolan will be involved with the franchise.

He said: "I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I'm taking that cowl off. I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished. It's me and Chris - that will be the end of that 'Batman' era."

Christian also discussed his co-stars in the film, admitting he felt Anne Hathaway had the hardest part to play because she isn't the first actress to portray Catwoman.

He told the Philippine Daily Inquirer: "In many ways, she has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously. So, I always saw Anne's role as being the toughest job of any of us."

He also praised Tom Hardy, who plays Batman's nemesis Bane, admitting he had enjoyed working with the actor.

He said: "I like working with him a great deal. He goes the whole hog."
