Christina Aguilera wanted to take part in 'Burlesque' because it deals with female empowerment.

The 'Dirrty' singer attended the premiere for the movie with co-star Cher at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood last night (15.11.10) and admitted she has always been fascinated by the art of burlesque.

She said: "I have a collection of burlesque books at home that I've had for years. I've always been intrigued and fascinated with the topic, the beauty, and the art of it. I think it's a really empowering thing for women."

The 29-year-old star - who filed for divorce from Jordan Bratman the father of her two-year-old son Max in October - admitted working with the veteran singer had helped her cope through her recent troubles.

She said: "She gave me so much advice, both personally and professionally.

"She didn't even have to open her mouth. She is just such an incredible presence and person.

"Been there and done everything before any of us came along. I admire and respect that truly.

Cher - who attended the premiere or 'Burlesque' in Los Angeles in a short sequinned black mini-dress added: "I have been through many of the things she has gone through. You can tell someone advice, and it was a way of connecting on and off the set.'

Before attending the 'Burlesque' premiere last night, Christina was presented with her own Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame earlier in the day.
