Christina Applegate is to star in comedy 'Up All Night'.

The pilot has been picked up by US network NBC and will show the 39-year-old actress portraying a working mother with a stay-at-home husband coping with family pressures.

'Saturday Night Live's Maya Rudolph will also star as well as Lorne Michaels, who is also a co-executive producer of the new show.

Christina is best known for her roles in movies such as 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy' but also has an impressive amount of TV shows on her resume, including 'Samantha Who?' and 'King of the Hill'.

Other pilots to have been picked up by NBC are 'Smash', 'Prime Suspect', and 'Whitney'.

'Smash' is a musical comedy based on a concept by heavyweight movie director Steven Spielberg and will star 'Will And Grace' actress Deborah Messing and former 'American Idol' runner-up Katherine Mcphee.

The show focuses on the cast of a Broadway musical about screen icon Marilyn Monroe.
