Two US TV news readers were forced to abandon a live bulletin yesterday (21MAR06) when a fire in the studio threatened to engulf them. Chuck Roberts and Linda Stouffer were presenting CNN Headline News when a light exploded and started the blaze while Stouffer was in the middle of a report. The anchor tried to continue but had to abandon the broadcast when Roberts was heard off camera saying "We're out of here", reports the New York Post. The pair were then seen being rushed off set by a technician before CNN switched to pre-recorded material. Returning to the live broadcast 15 minutes later, Roberts said, "We had an actual fire. Flames were shooting out. We had to take a pause. "Everything is cool, and we're back with the news."
