Cnn Anchor Reveals He's Gay
In a new book titled Transparent , CNN weekend anchor Don Lemon has revealed that he is gay, and in interviews promoting the book, he has expressed concern that his disclosure may cost him his job. In an interview with NPR's David Folkenflik, Lemon said, "My livelihood is on the line. ... I don't know if people are going to accept me; if I will have a job. I don't know how people will feel about this." In a separate interview with The New York Times, Lemon added, "I'm scared. ... I'm talking about something that people might shun me for, ostracize me for." Although two other network anchors have disclosed their homosexuality -- Rachel Maddow and Thomas Roberts of MSNBC -- Lemon, who is African-American, said that he faces a two-pronged problem, especially among his own race. "It's about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You're taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In The Black community they think you can pray the gay away," he said. "I guess this makes me a double minority now."
