Tracy Morgan recently apologised for his homophobic rant at a stand-up show, after some of its contents appeared on Facebook, as Contactmusic.com reported yesterday. Now it seems that celebrities are lining up to either attack or defend Tracy Morgan, as the media storm surrounding the 30 Rock star shows no sign of letting up. In his now infamous diatribe, Morgan claimed that being gay isn't biological, and that he would stab his son to death if he were gay.
Yesterday we brought you the response of Tina Fey and co-star Alec Baldwin, and as the weekend has progressed more stars have given their opinion. According to Entertainment Weekly, Chris Rock leaped to the defence of his fellow comedian on Twitter, stating: "I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in world where Tracy Morgan can't say foul inappropriate shit." However, the Hollywood Reporter outlined that after he was criticised by gay rights group GLAAD for defending Morgan, he changed his tack to: "wow I get it that shit wasn't called for and I don't support it at all."
Award-winning CNN analyst ROLAND S. MARTIN also defended Morgan in his Washington Post blog, saying: "Morgan is keenly aware of what society actually thinks, and he simply said it onstage. Isn't that what comedians have always done?" This provoked an angry response from black comedienne Wanda Sykes, who tweeted about Martin: ".Ro, I love and respect you, so I feel that I can tell you that your column is some bullsh*t.We can do better." It is unclear whether Morgan will keep his job at 30 Rock, as the controversy shows little sign of dying down.
