A memorial to Cory Monteith is being planned for the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 31-year-old 'Glee' actor died from a heroin and alcohol overdose earlier this month and producers are currently planning the best way to pay tribute to him at the event, which will take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 22.

Executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, told Deadline: ''Something that reflects an homage [is being planned, but] what the extent of that is, or how we're going to approach it... well, it's too early to tell.

''If Cory had passed away in March, we'd have had four months to look at this with a little more perspective. The reason we're getting all of this discussion now is because he passed away two weeks ago. But we are going to deal with it.''

Cory was found dead by staff in his hotel room at the Fairview Pacific Hotel in Vancouver on July 13 after he failed to check out. He had enjoyed a night out with friends on July 12 before returning to the hotel alone.

His girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele, who was in Mexico with friends at the time of Cory's death, recently took to Instagram to pay tribute to the star and thank fans for their support.

She wrote: ''Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart.''
