Courtney Love is pining to have her 11-year-old daughter FRANCES BEAN back, after losing custody of her this week (ends24OCT03).

The former Hole frontwoman was told by a judge that she could no longer be in custody of her only child, following her 2 October (03) arrest on misdemeanour drug charges.

Love will move out of the Beverly Hills home she leases and Frances will move back in with a nanny and be monitored by the 39-year-old's stepfather FRANK RODRIGUEZ and an aunt.

According to Rodriguez, Love will be permitted frequent visits.

But she refused to give up her daughter by late Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain without a bitter battle with Cobain's mother WENDY O'CONNOR, says Rodriguez, who adds, "Courtney had words with Wendy. It escalated. There were slaps."

And in an interview with America's PEOPLE magazine, just days before learning of the judge's ruling, Love stated, "I'm not on some downward spiral. This is stupid. I'm not on narcotics. I'm fine. I just want my daughter back."

The LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES took Frances into custody, allowing her to contact Love after she had been released from a private psychiatric hospital.

Love continues, "When she called, she was like, 'Mommy, I can't tell you where I am. Are my Charmed being TiVOed (recorded)? Mommy, I don't want to live in a foster home.'

"I don't do a lot of school stuff, and I don't drive, and I get embarrassed that some of the kid's moms won't let their kids play with her because I'm scary. But Frances thinks I'm a cool mom. I love her so much."
