A documentary about former Cream drummer Ginger Baker picked up the Documentary Grand Jury prize at the South by Southwest Film Awards in Austin, Texas on Tuesday (13Mar12).
Director Jay Bulger's Beware of Mr. Baker wowed festival film fans when it premiered on Saturday night (10Mar12), and now producer Fisher Stevens hopes the big win will help the movie land a major theatrical release.
He tells Billboard.com, "We would love to figure it out, love to get a theatrical release and maybe even do a tour - take the movie on tour with CDs and Ginger-and-Jay T-shirts."
The documentary was shot mostly at Baker's horse ranch in South Africa and chronicles the rocker's drugs battle and his career as a jazz musician.
The film opens with a tribute to Baker from punk icon John Lydon, who worked with the Cream legend on Public Image Limited's Album album.
