It is that time of year when NBC's America's Got Talent dominates the weekly ratings -- except for those weeks when the NBA Finals overwhelm everything in sight. Last week was no exception as Tuesday's edition of AGT led Nielsen's top ten with 12.5 million viewers. That was well off the 15.2 million that it attracted during the comparable week a year ago, but nothing else on the tube came close. Of course, amost everything else on the Nielsen list was a rerun. A repeat of CBS's NCIS placed third on the list with 8.7 million viewers. In the top 20, the only non-repeats on the list besides AGT were ABC's The Bachelorette (#7); ABC's coverage of the Concert for the Queen (#9); Fox's So You Think You Can Dance (#13); and the Tony Awards (#18). During a slow news week, ratings for each of the evening newscasts were down. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams remained the leader with 7.5 million viewers. ABC Wrod News with Diane Sawyer placed second with 6.7 million viewers, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley continued to trail with 5.2 million viewers. Overall, CBS led the week with an average 3.9 household rating and a 7 share. NBC came in second with a 3.1/5, edging out ABCwith a 3.0/5. Fox trailed with a 2.4/4.
