Oscar winner Cuba Gooding JR is urging Terrence Howard not to let his Academy Award nomination affect his work, insisting it is easy to become complacent after receiving a prestigious accolade.

Gooding Jr won a Best Supporting Actor trophy in 1996 for Jerry Maguire; this year (06) Howard is nominated for Best Actor with respect to his role in HUSTLE + FLOW.

The star says he would advise Howard, "'You've got talent and are being recognised for your talent. But don't think you know everything and are the answer to everyone's dreams. Just keep working.'

"I wish I knew that a few years ago.

"I definitely got caught up in the hype and prestige of the Academy Awards. I passed up some great projects and took some dubious ones.

"But I'm 10 times the actor today that I was a decade ago."
