Boy George regrets making his Culture Club bandmates wear outlandish clothing onstage and in videos and is convinced they would have been happier in denim and leather.

The colourful frontman styled the group and led them to global success in the 1980s with hits like Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, but he now admits the other members would have preferred to dress like rock stars.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I think the rest of Culture Club would have rather been in a rock band.

"Some of the things I made them wear... They'd much rather have been in Bon Jovi or something."
