Donald Driver was among the early highlights of the new series of reality show Dancing With The Stars as the celebrity contest kicked off its 14th season last night (March 19, 2012). Driver certainly wasn't the most technically adept on display on the first evening of the competition but his sheer showmanship more than made up for that, according to the New York Times, and he was justifiably given a fine ovation by the live audience.

He was by far from the only celebrity to impress during the first round however, though not all stood out because of their dancing ability. WILLIAM LEVY for one set the crowd hooting and howling thanks to his chiselled abs that were on display, barely concealed by his costume. It was such that judge Carrie Ann Inaba blushingly thanked the ABC network for giving her a judging job.

The top scorer of the evening however was Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins who, together with, Jaleel White, raked in a mighty 26 points. Bottom of the pile meanwhile were Melissa Gilbert, Martina Navratilova and Gavin Degraw. Sports stars have traditionally done well in the competition so the poor placing of Navratilova was a surprising one, Degraw's less so with the singer being a self-confessed "klutz." However the standard was such that judge Len Goodman commented "This is the best first show of any season!" Though we're sure he says that every series.
