Brad Pitt is learning to drive a tank.

The 49-year-old actor is mastering the mechanisms of the military machine for his role as an American soldier in World War Two drama 'Fury'.

Tank training had been arranged by producers for Brad and the other cast members so the battle scenes will be as realistic as possible on screen.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''These boot camps will involve hardcore physical exercise as well as advanced tank driving.''

Bosses got the idea for the tank training from Steven Spielberg who did the same thing when he shot his epic military movie 'Saving Private Ryan'.

The lessons have been taking place in Wiltshire, South West England, and Germany.

Brad - who is engaged to Angelina Jolie - stars in 'Fury' with Shia LaBeouf and the movie is directed by David Ayer.

The film centres on a Sherman tank commander - played by Brad - and his crew who find themselves behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany in April 1945 just as the war is coming to an end.

Shooting on the picture is due to begin in September this year, and a release date has been set for November 2014.
