Soccer idol David Beckham is set to star in a superhero cartoon series to be screened worldwide.

The British heart-throb - who plays for Spanish team REAL MADRID - will have superpowers both on and off the pitch.

He is being lined up to help sell 26 episodes of ALLSTAR STRIKER in more than 150 countries.

The series could earn the Spanish soccer club $29 million (GBP18 million), and bosses hope it will break the lucrative American market.

The club has been in talks with Disney about the cartoon, which will also feature Real players Roberto Carlos, ZINEDINE ZIDANE, LUIS FIGO and RAUL.

An insider says, "Superhero BECKS has huge potential. We want it to be bigger than The Simpsons."
