David Beckham's kids branded him ''super old'' when he told them about his Legend Award.

The 39-year-old retired soccer star - who has sons Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 11, and Cruz, nine, and two-year-old daughter Harper with Victoria Beckham - was bestowed with the accolade at the first ever Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards last night (17.07.14) but he admits news of his prize was met with a funny reaction from his offspring.

Quizzed about their response, he said: ''Super amazing! One of them said [I was] super old, so that made me laugh today. But I like to think they think I am amazing.''

David - who was covered in golden slime as he accepted his award - also expressed how much his new accolade means to him, especially as it's voted for by children.

He explained to 'Access Hollywood': ''It means a lot because obviously I have come to the end of my career as a soccer player - a 22-year career - and at the end of your career it's nice to still receive awards, especially when it's from kids.

''When kids vote for you ... kids are very honest, I know that, I have four myself, so when you receive an award it means a lot.''
