The sitcom began as a radio show named 'Here Come the Nelsons' before making the transition to television and becoming the longest-running family sitcom in US TV history, airing 435 episodes between 1952 and 1966. Nelson began appearing on the show at the age of 12, and his teenage years were played out in front of an audience of millions. His graduation from high school and entry into university were all portrayed on the show, and when the actor married JUNE BLAIR in 1960, she also became his on-screen wife.
In his later life, Nelson focused on directing advertisements and made his final acting appearance in the 1990 movie 'Cry Baby', which also starred Johnny Depp. He is survived by his wife Yvonne as well as his four sons, one daughter, and seven grandchildren.
