Former GUNS N' ROSES bandmates Duff Mckagan and Slash and ex-My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way are among the stars who have taken to Twitter.com to add their tributes to Deftones bass player CHI CHENG.

The tragic rocker never recovered after slipping into a coma following a car crash in Santa Clara, California in November 2008, and he died on Saturday (13Apr13).

Early tributes came from Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno, Fred Durst and No Doubt's Tony Kanal and now a second wave of celebrities have responded to the sad news.

Slash writes, "Just heard that Chi from the Deftones passed away. That's really sad news. I didn't really know him. But he was an awesome bass player. Rip." And MCKagan adds, "Rip Chi. Awful news. Condolences to the Cheng family and @deftones.... from the MCKagan's."

Meanwhile Way offers up a poetic note, tweeting, "The sun is hiding. Very grown up day today. Thinking of a friend."

Also adding their tributes on Sunday (14Apr13): the members of Papa Roach, Sebastian Bach and Rage Against the MAChine star Tom Morello, who uses Cheng's death to offer up a warning to motorists: "R.I.P Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng. Very sweet and talented guy. Head injury from car accident. Everyone please wear seatbelt (sic) and live."
