Demi Lovato sent Disney bosses into a spin over Christmas (11) after attacking them via Twitter.com on Friday (23Dec11) for airing a joke about eating disorders on one of their hit TV shows.
The 19-year-old singer/actress, who enrolled in a rehab programme last year (10) to deal with bulimia and other issues, became angry when she watched an episode of popular show Shake It Up, during which one of the characters quipped, "I could just eat you up. Well, if I ate."
The joke didn't sit well with Lovato, who quit her lead role on Disney show Sonny With a Chance earlier this year (11), and she took to her Twitter blog to vent her fury.
In a series of tweets, she wrote, "I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress' from the pressures of an Eating Disorder and yet still make jokes about that very disease. nice."
Referring to former child stars Raven-Symone and Hilary Duff, she added, "And is it just me or are the actress(es) (on Disney Channel) getting Thinner And Thinner.... I miss the days of Raven, and Lizzie Mcguire."
But Lovato wasn't done - she also sent a tweet directly to Disney, writing, "Dear Disney Channel, Eating DisorderS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT."
Disney representatives caught sight of the star's angry tweets hours later and issued an apology to Lovato, insisting they would be taking action to prevent offending other viewers.
A spokesperson replied, "we hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them... It's Never our intention to make light of eating disorders!"
Accepting the apology, a satisfied Lovato wrote back, "thank you".
