Demi Lovato says her recent stint in rehabilitation extends much further than her split from boyfriend Joe Jonas. The singer, who sought help for "emotional and physical issues" says the pain of the breakup had little to do with her decision to enter a treatment facility.
News of Lovato's "meltdown" first arose after she quit the 'Camp Rock 2' tour, which her ex-boyfriend was a part of - but she says Jonas was not the problem. Speaking to Elle's September issue, Demi explained, "I wouldn't credit my meltdown to a guy. There was so much other stuff in my life". The singer, who has struggled with eating disorders, claims she began being bullied at the age of 8, saying, "Those girls never gave me an explanation for why they were bullying me. One of the words they called me was 'fat.' At that age, you think, 'Oh, so I don't have friends because I'm fat". The singer's depression worsened and she admits to cutting herself to ease the emotional pain. Her troubles reached boiling point during a tour of South America when she punched back-up dancer Alex Welch on a flight out of Columba, saying, "I was completely out of line all summer.I just felt like [Welch] had betrayed me. When you punch someone on a plane, enough is enough".
Lovato is reportedly working on material for her upcoming album with rapper Missy Elliot and music mogul TIMBALAND.
