Chloe Grace Moretz has signed up to star in 'The November Criminals'.

The 16-year-old actress is to follow up her roles in the 'Carrie' remake and 'The Equalizer' - in which she stars opposite Denzel Washington - with a role in the high school movie, which is based on Sam Munson's 2011 novel of the same name.

The book focuses on protagonist Addison Schacht, a rebellious high school senior who sells drugs to his fellow pupils, insults teachers and telling offensive jokes who realises his negative qualities while filling out an application to the University of Chicago.

Addison spends much of his time obsessing over his best friend Phoebe - nicknamed 'Digger' - but then his attention is grabbed by the murder of his classmate Kevin, whose death he investigates.

Sacha Gervasi will direct the project and Chloe is to portray love interest Phoebe.

As of yet no one has been cast as Addison, but it is known a number of top young Hollywood actors are vying for the part.

Steven Knight - whose other work includes David Cronenberg's 'Eastern Promises' and upcoming fantasy film 'Seventh Son' - will be adapting the book for the big screen.
