Diplo has admitted he was ''jealous'' and ''mad'' when his ex-girlfriend M.I.A signed to a major label.

The DJ-and-producer split from the 'Paper Planes singer in 2008 after five years together and the pair worked on music together throughout their romance.

M.I.A recently accused Diplo of being jealous of her rise to prominence in 2005 and accused him of trying to hold her back. Diplo has now confessed he was initially envious of her success.

The 36-year-old star told Billboard: ''Nothing she said is a lie. I was really jealous and sad, and probably mad when she signed to a major label. I had a lot of control when we started, and I was really proud of the music we made. The label promised her all these people to work with, and I was like, 'But your thing is this.' I probably made mistakes in our relationship, but we made awesome music. Every time we had a fight, we made good music after.''

Despite her revelation about his behaviour, Diplo insists he and M.I.A are on good terms after meeting up and are even considering working together again.

He explained: ''I met her the next day at a hotel, and she apologized; I hadn't seen her in five years. We're thinking about doing something for Major Lazer with her. She's so awesome still, and her attitude is much better now.''
