LATEST: Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines has come under fire from country music bigwigs for wearing a controversial T-shirt at last month's (MAY03) ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS ceremony.

Maines - who faced a huge backlash when she said she was ashamed to come from the same state as President GEORGE W BUSH - sported the slogan FUTK on her top.

This was thought to be a thinly-veiled insult to country music singer TOBY Keith, who has made vocal his opposition to the Chick's political stance.

CADILLAC JACK, music programmer of Philadelphia's WXTU said yesterday (02JUN03), "With all the patriotism in the air that night, it was a downer and completely unnecessary. I was disappointed with them yet again."

Programming director BRIAN JENNINGS of Nebraska station KZKX adds, "Just when you think it's safe to add the Chicks back into rotation... Oh, Natalie, why do you make it so hard to love you?"
