Dmx Charged With Violating Release Deal
Retired rapper DMX has been charged with violating the terms of a plea deal approved after he crashed his car through a gate at New York City's John F Kennedy International Airport during a drug-fuelled rampage in 2004.
DMX, real name Earl Simmons, posted a $500 (GBP900) bail at a hearing on Monday (08AUG05), and is next expected in court on 11 October (05).
The ROMEO MUST DIE star faces up to one year in prison if he's found guilty of violating the conditions of his release.
Simmons, 34, pleaded guilty last December (04) to reckless endangerment and confessed to being on Valium when he told a stunned parking attendant he was a federal agent, before driving into the airport gate in June 2004.
He was fined, had his licence suspended and was sentenced to a conditional discharge, meaning further violations within a year could land him in jail.
But just one week after the sentence, Simmons was again charged with speeding, and in April (05) he was arrested over his involvement in a three-car smash which injured two police officers.
Simmons' lawyer MURRAY RICHMAN insists the star was not responsible for the officers' injuries, and was on his way to hospital to see his wife TASHERA when the accident occurred.
