Dolly Parton, the 65-year-old American country singer, is set to make a birthday appearance at a showing of '9 to 5 The Musical' in Chicago tonight (19th January 2011) according to the Chicago Sun Times. The musical, which Parton wrote her first Broadway score for, is currently midway through a national tour.
'9 to 5' opens at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago this evening and Parton is expected to walk down the red carpet at around 6.45pm before introducing the show to the sold-out opening night audience. Theatre critic HEDY WEISS noted, "If all goes as planned, there should be a Dolly Parton sighting Wednesday night in Chicago". The country singer celebrates her 65th birthday today and is reportedly keen to celebrate by catching up on the acclaimed show that first opened on Broadway in April 2009. Since then, the production has been nominated for 15 Drama Desk Awards as well as four Tony Awards.
The stage show is based on the 1980 movie 'Nine to Five' starring Jane Fonda, and stars DEE HOTY and Diana DeGarmo. The original Broadway cast included 'The West Wing's' Allison Janney.
