Trump Angers Neighbours By Planting Trees
Property mogul Donald Trump has angered his neighbours in Rancho Palos Verdes, California by planting hundreds of ficus trees without permission.
The reality TV star has planted 45 3.66-metre (12-foot) tall trees and 300 1.83-metre (six-foot) tall trees without authorisation at his Trump National Golf Club.
Rancho Palos Verdes councillor Doug Stern says, "I laughed out loud. Maybe I shouldn't have - it's either laugh or cry. It seems like this is a cultural trait within their organisation."
Last year (06), Trump upset officials after erecting an illegal 21.34-metre (70-foot) flagpole at his club.
Local officials have agreed to allow the flagpole in principal, but Mayor Tom Long has warned Trump to sort out the tree situation or he'll vote change his mind in a vote next month (Jul07).
Long says, "If they're not gone by 17 July, from my point of view the question of the flagpole is reopened."
However, Trump claims nobody has complained about the trees.
He says, "It was done for two purposes - beautification and safety. They're bushes - they look beautiful and everybody loves them. We have not had one complaint."
