Donald Trump has wished Jenna Talackova luck in her bid to become Miss Universe. Talockova's entry into the competition has been marred by controversy, as she is transgender but Trump - who runs the Miss Universe Organization issued a statement yesterday (April 3, 2012) to wish her well in the contest, CBS News reports.

In the statement, Donald wished Jenna "the best of luck in her quest for the crown." A decision had been made the previous day, to allow Jenna to enter the contest "provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions." No further details were provided, however, as to what those requirements were. Earlier on Tuesday, Jenna and her attorney had urged the organization to clarify exactly what those rules were. They displayed a copy of her passport, which lists her as female, as do her birth certificate and driver's license.

Jenna underwent a sex change six years ago, after she was born male. She was initially barred from entering the 61st Miss Universe pageant in May, "citing a rule that she must be 'naturally born' a woman." Speaking about the ban, Talackova said "I was devastated, and I felt that excluding me for the reason that they gave was unjust. I have never asked for any special consideration. I only wanted to compete." It would now appear that Trump has decided to remove the rule, though it remains in place in other countries around the world.
