ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN has been crowned the best political thriller of all time, after garnering the most votes in a new British poll.

The 1976 movie - directed by ALAN J PAKULA - stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford as a pair of investigative journalists who uncover the truth behind America's infamous Watergate bugging scandal.

The drama beat out competition from 1964 film DR STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB and 1974 conspiracy thriller THE PARALLAX VIEW - also directed by Pakula - in the survey by supermarket website TESCO.COM.

Tesco were inspired to undertake the poll by a sudden rise in interest in political classics.

The website's marketing chief DAVE CLEMENTS says, "We saw a surge in rentals for political thrillers and thought compiling a chart would make it easier for movie-lovers to find other classics they'd like."
