Eddie Cibrian says Leann Rimes is in talks for the US 'x factor'.

The 38-year-old former 'CSI: Miami' star reveals his wife met with show bosses to discuss a possible judging position on the show, and he believes she would be a great fit.

He told US website Hollyscoop: ''I know that she's met with them, and we'll see what happens. Who knows what they're up to?

''I think she would be so great ... I know that she is somebody that would be phenomenal on that show.''

Other names currently in the frame to replace axed judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul on the panel include Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears - who is rumoured to be on the brink of signing a contract.

A source told The Hollywood Reporter Britney's fiancé and agent Jason Trawick is negotiating a deal that could even be finalised this week.

However, show creator Simon Cowell is remaining tight lipped about who will join him and L.A Reid in the judges' seats.

He told US show 'Good Day New York': ''You'll have to wait and see. I can't confirm or deny anything right now. The truth is, we are talking to a number of people. It changes on a daily basis to be honest with you.''

He admits to being in talks with a ''very famous singer'', and a ''very famous actress'', and says he wants a man and woman to replace Steve Jones as the host.

He explained: ''I always wanted a boy and a girl to host the show.

''And I like hosts who don't kind of have a hosting background, you know. I like them when they've done acting and stuff like that. It's a different kind of dynamic.''
