Eddie Murphy's new comedy 'A Thousand Words' has bombed at the US box office.
The highly-concept production - which reportedly cost $40 million to produce - grossed $6.4 million in the Friday-Sunday estimates.
To add insult to injury, the actor's comedy mustered a zero per cent ranking on review website Rotten Tomatoes, and it received 39 negative reviews out of 39.
Variety also slammed the movie in a review, stating: ''Murphy's largely wordless, physically adroit performance can't redeem this tortured exercise in high-concept spiritualist hokum.''
The motion picture - which is released in the UK on April 6 - tells the story of a literary agent (Eddie) who finds himself under a curse in which he will die if he says one thousand words.
Taylor Kitsch's new movie 'John Carter' has also come under fire from critics, despite grossing $30.6 million in the US.
BoxOffice.com editor Phil Contrino is quoted by E! as saying: ''Labeling ['John Carter'] as a financial disaster at this point doesn't really make sense.
''It's not going to be a huge blockbuster at home, but it's on pace to make up for that disappointment by doing well abroad.''
