Eli Roth has signed a deal with Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed today (March 21, 2012), to direct an executive produce one of their forthcoming exclusive content projects. The hour-long horror series will be entitled Hemlock Grove and Netflick's 23 million customers will have exclusive access to the streaming of the show.
Hemlock Grove is based on Brian MCGreevy's gothic horror novel and is set to star Famke Janssen (X-Men) and Bill Skarsgard as the lead characters. According to the report, the 13-episode first series is expected to be made available in early 2013. The story is set in a "ravaged Pennsylvania steel town" and begins with the discovery of a girl's dead body. Hemlock Grove will mark Roth's first foray into directing for a TV series. Until now, he has been best known for producing Hostel (and its sequel) and the fake trailer segment of Grindhouse. He's keen to embark on the new venture, though, saying "I've been waiting for years to dive into television." He will be joined by fellow executive producers Lee Shipman (Zorro Reborn), Marke Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica), Michael Connolly (How to Train Your Dragon) and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead)
