THE GUARDIAN
Torrini's voice alone would make you want to stand on a chair and applaud. The whole package is stunning. MIXMAG
purveys softly melodic pop with textured beauty..a quietly remarkable record TIME OUT
Every so often one comes across a handcrafted jewel of a record and Fisherman's Woman by Emiliana Torrini is one such release. Every one of its twelve songs is imbued with a rare intimacy and warmth and Sunny Road , the first single from the album, is no exception.
Written in Emiliana's typically confessional style, the lyrics to Sunny Road take the form of a letter. Will you still meet me on the sunny road? she asks the letter's recipient as she reminisces about their time together.
The accompanying animated video continues this personal theme. Directed by Ali Taylor, it's complex visual technique involved working closely with Emiliana. Photographs of Emiliana's personal belongings created a beautiful collaged backdrop for the animation, a technique Taylor has used before in her previous film Puleng.
The single also features remixes of Sunny Road by Manasseh and Atom TM. Manasseh's version adds a sprinkling of good time bounce to the original and creates an even more summery glow around Emiliana's wistful vocals. Following that, Atom TM gives an electronic blurring to proceedings, to produce a glitchy but still totally horizontal robofied remix.
After two recent sell out shows in London and support slots with Terry Callier, Richie Havens and Ed Harcourt, Emiliana heads out on a UK headlining tour in March/April with full list of dates as follows:
