Emily Deschanel is encouraging other mothers to boycott cow's milk.

The 'Bones' actress has teamed up with animal rights organisation PETA for a new video campaign, urging women to show compassion for mother cows by raising their children on vegan diets.

The 36-year-old actress - who has a 20-month-old son called Henry with her writer husband David Hornsby - says in the video: ''As a mother, I experience the joy of raising my son every day. But not all moms are so lucky.

''[M]other cows on dairy farms have their young traumatically torn away from them shortly after birth so that the milk meant for their calves can be sold to people instead.

''The best way to help cows abused by the dairy industry and keep your family healthy is to stock your fridge with delicious vegan foods. Please join me in standing up for all mothers by refusing to support the cruel dairy industry.''

Emily previously told Women's Health magazine why she decided to avoid all animal products, saying: ''I've been a vegan for about 15 years. I went to a pretty liberal high school, and we watched 'Diet for a New America' (a 1987 expose on how food choices affect health and the environment). And I just stopped eating and wearing animal products after that.''

Other celebrities that have previously joined PETA to endorse vegan diets include Casey Affleck, Joaquin Phoenix, Alicia Silverstone and Mayim Bialik.
