Eminem and Jack White have been accused of abandoning their hometown of Detroit, Michigan once their music careers took off.

British music producer Kevin Nixon, who moved to the city last year (14) to found the Detriot Institute of Music Education, is convinced stars such as Eminem and White have not done enough to celebrate and support the music scene where they first made their name.

Nixon tells British newspaper The Times, "The music industry more than any other has neglected Detroit... So many musicians have left here to start careers somewhere else. The record company executives from New York or La (Los Angeles) just fly right over."

He then singled out the two stars for criticism, adding, "They just passed through... They didn't build a movement. That's why I decided to bring the music industry here."
