Emma Stone was a divisive figure on the red carpet of the Academy Awards as her dress drew a mixture of praise and criticism from fashionistas the world over, with the UK's Daily Mail pointing out that her attire was rather similar to a gown that Nicole Kidman wore to the same event back in 2007.
Stone's profile is currently truly in the ascendancy; though she wasn't given a nominee nod at the Oscars, her performance in 'The Help' last year nevertheless saw her win a slew of plaudits elsewhere and with a leading role in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' reboot out this year all eyes were on her as she arrived on the red carpet at the weekend. Wearing a Giambattista Valli cerise gown, it was a brave choice by Stone, the New York Daily News placing her in their Oscars Worst Dress list, but the Mail complimenting on her for trying something different.
They did however point out the similarities it bore to Kidman's gown at the 2007 event, pointing out that though the dress was obviously a different cut and a different shade of red, the necklines were near identical - and it's this that's raised attention with the fashion critics. The Mail also pointed out that Stone's dress was similar to that which Jennifer Lopez wore to last year's Met Gala. Lopez was of course having fashion issues of her own this time round, with suggestions of a wardrobe malfunction on her tight-fitting gown.
